MUDDY ROOTS

Music festivals don’t have to be corporate affairs with overpriced tickets, ridiculously expensive food and crowds cranky and exhausted by all of the above.

Every Labor Day weekend in Tennessee, the Junebug Ranch gives way to Muddy Roots - an anti-festival if I ever saw one. Acts include punk, metal, stoner, alt-country and who knows what else. Every year is a surprise.

Artists freely walk the grounds, plus you can easily afford a t-shirt and a meal. You can’t beat the people watching, either. It’s why I keep going back.
